Silver Airways recently announced its purchase of Seaborne Airlines

Purpose

The purpose of this project is to introduce you to the planning process and to complete a SWOT analysis to determine a company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.  Using the information gathered to complete the SWOT, you will begin to build a Strategic Plan identifying and discussing the company’s goals and objectives.

Outcome Met by Completing This Assignment

  • employ effective planning processes to develop strategies, goals, and objectives in order to enhance performance and sustainability

How to Set Up the Paper

Create a Word or Rich Text Format (RTF) document that is double spaced.  Use 12-point font.  The final product will be 3-4 pages in length excluding the title page and reference page.  Write clearly and concisely.

Use this link, Project 1 Template to complete this project.

Instructions:

Silver Airways recently announced its purchase of Seaborne Airlines that is based in Puerto Rico.  Expanding its flight routes within the Caribbean, makes the company the highest volume airline to the Bahamas and the Caribbean from Florida.  In addition to its Bahama and Caribbean flights, Silver Airways serves the Southeast and Northeast states.

You recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business.  You are a new hire at Silver Airways and your manager has asked you to assist him with building a Strategic Plan to reach the goal of merging with an airline carrier serving the Northeast US. Using the course material (weeks 1 – 3) and your research on Silver Airways and its acquisition of Seaborne Airlines, you will first conduct a SWOT analysis on the current state of the airline to determine its Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.  You will then identify company goals, explain these goals and define objectives for each identified goal.

In answering the requirements, you will support the reasoning and conclusions made, which means you will explain ‘why and how’ rather than relying on making statements. This is a most important requirement so do not overlook it.

 Step 1:  Research

Review the links below to learn more about each airline, the merged map of flights, and the strategic plan that led to the merger:

You may do additional research.  Make sure to take notes and do not take the research lightly as the more research you do the more you will understand Silver Airways and the better the SWOT analysis will be.

Step 2:  Review the Paper.

Read the paper to ensure all required elements are present.

The following are specific requirements that you will follow.  Use the checklist to mark off that you have followed each specific requirement.

Checklist Specific Project Requirements
Proofread your paper
Read and use the grading rubric while completing the problem set to ensure all requirements are met that will lead to the highest possible grade.
Third person writing is required.  Third person means that there are no words such as “I, me, my, we, or us” (first person writing), nor is there use of “you or your” (second person writing).  If uncertain how to write in the third person, view this link:  http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/first-second-and-third-person.
Contractions are not used in business writing, so do not use them.
Paraphrase and do not use direct quotation marks.  Paraphrase means you do not use more than four consecutive words from a source document.  Instead put a passage from a source document into your own words and attribute the passage to the source document.  Not using direct quotation marks means that there should be no passages with quotation marks and instead the source material is paraphrased as stated above.  Note that a reference within a reference list cannot exist without an associated in-text citation and vice versa.   You may not use more than four consecutive words from a source document, as doing so would require direct quotation marks.  Changing words from a passage does not exclude the passage from having quotation marks.   If more than four consecutive words are used from source documents, this material will not be included in the grade and could lead to allegations of academic dishonesty.
You are expected to use the research and weekly course material to develop the analysis and support the reasoning.   There should be a robust use of the course material along with thorough analysis of potential location information.  Material used from a source document must be cited and referenced.  A reference within a reference list cannot exist without an associated in-text citation and vice versa.  Changing words from a passage does not exclude the passage from having quotation marks.   If more than four consecutive words are used from source documents, this material will not be included in the grade and could lead to allegations of academic dishonesty.
Use in-text citations and provide a reference list that contains the reference associated with each in-text citation.
You may not use books in completing this problem set unless part of the course material.  Also, do not use a dictionary or Wikipedia.
Provide the page or paragraph number in every in-text citation presented.  If the eBook does not have pages, provide the chapter title and topic heading.  If using a video, provide the minutes and second of the cited material.

Introduction

(Write an Introduction paragraph.  The Introduction paragraph is the first paragraph of the paper and will be used to describe to the reader the intent of the paper explaining the main points covered in the paper.  This intent should be understood prior to reading the remainder of the paper so the reader knows exactly what is being covered in the paper.)

(Write the introduction last to ensure that all of the main points are covered.)

SWOT Table

Using the research from the websites provided and any additional research, complete a SWOT Table using the following format.

(Provide a minimum of three strengths, three weaknesses, three opportunities and three threats.)

(Provide an in-text citation for each item presented in the SWOT Table.)

Strengths Weaknesses

Opportunities Threats

SWOT Analysis

(Write a paragraph for each quadrant in the SWOT explaining the rationale for each criterion within the quadrant.  Remember, there must be a minimum of three criteria in each quadrant.)

Goals and Objectives

(You will now begin to build the framework for the Strategic Plan that will be developed upon approval of a merger.  Identify and explain three (3) major goals that the company should look to attain with the approval of the merger, with explanations as to the importance of each goal and why the goals are relevant to the company’s strategy)

Make sure to use the research AND course materials to support what is presented.  Your research will guide you to create the goals and objectives.)

This framework must have the following items.

STRATEGIC GOAL 1

Identification and explanation of Strategic Goal 1 – Provided by the student

Strategic Objectives:  Student to define and discuss at least two objectives to drive the Strategic Goal

STRATEGIC GOAL 2

Identification and explanation of Strategic Goal 2 – Provided by the student

Strategic Objectives:  Student to define and discuss at least two objectives to drive the Strategic Goal

STRATEGIC GOAL 3

Identification and Explanation of Strategic Goal 3 – Provided by the student

Strategic Objectives:  Student to define and discuss at least two objectives to drive the Strategic Goal

Conclusion

(Create a concluding paragraph.  The Conclusion is intended to emphasize the purpose/significance of the analysis, emphasize the significance/consequence of findings, and indicate the wider applications that are derived from the main points of the project’s requirements.  You will draw conclusions about the findings of the external environment analysis.)

References

(The reference page is on a separate page from the report.  The reference page is completed according to APA with each reference left-justified with hanging indentation for subsequent lines.  References are completed in alphabetical order.  Please see the module, Learn to Use APA to ensure references are in APA format.)

Setting and physical spaces of the Whedon version of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ by William Shakespeare.

The Whedon version is much like the original play-script based on choice of setting. Originally, ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ is a comedy film produced by William Shakespeare between the years 1958 – 1599. This is one of the old works of Shakespeare and it was produced when he was about approaching the middle of his career. This comedy play was found more interesting and it was later included in the First Folio as and put into publication in the year 1623. Having been watched Whedon version, it sounds so like the original play -script on how setting is arranged, with dark lighting and the movement of characters (4 min: 34 sec). The most interesting thing about the Whedon version of the film was the setting. Having been watching the film carefully, one would notice that the film has a very unique and interesting setting that would draw the attention of any person willing to watch. The setting of the film is similar to the times of the Italian renaissance. This place is a nice setting for this comedy as it is well equipped with interesting scenery for the attention of the viewers.

In this analysis, I will focus on the setting of Whedon version play based on its setting and stage of performance in relation to original script. The choice of the setting of the play made the Whedon version so famous. Focusing on the setting of the comedy, the comedy looks like it was filmed in a place like Messina, Italy and the timeframe for this film seems like the 16th century, like the original script. In the original film, the theatre looks very dark and it is very clear that in this comedy, chose to have a warm as well as the seaport of the Sicily, Messina. The setting is in Messina which is one of the old cities even during the performance of this comedy (17 min: 14 sec). Historically, the old was constructed by the Greeks during the 730 BCE in the northeastern side of the island of Sicily and this makes the setting of the place a bit old.

By watching the Whedon version, one would not struggle to notice that the setting is like within the gateway to the Sicily especially from those mainlands of Italy just like it was in original script. It is an amazing comedy that takes place in the home especially on the grounds of similar to Leonatos apartments. The reason why the Whedon version chose Messina like setting was to make it very warm and resemble a tropical setting that makes it almost like original script of this comedy.

Whedon version Italy setting like relates to so many cool and nice ancient empires and therefore I think this was the best setting the comedy could be performed. I think this set is pretty cool for the contemporary audience of Shakespeare. The original play having been published in 1598, the Whedon version setting is worth it because it reflects the old times. This was the best setting that could be nice for the Whedon version comedy considering the original script time of performance (35 min: 53 sec). The choice of this setting would make it easy for all audiences of the comedy to have a sense of understanding the area where the film was produced. This would be easy for the audience to better understand the comedy even in the future. The choice of the outdoor setting/ scenery is a very wonderful part of the play and also important to watch. Some parts of the actions take place in Leonato’s garden and this makes the comedy interesting to watch. It is kind of coincident that most conversations on love occur outdoors. This comedy focuses on natural settings and it is the choice of Shakespeare to enhance the romantic mood of the comedy. Thinking about the garden, one would imagine how beautiful this would be but Shakespeare is trying to connect this with nature.

The choice of the outdoor performance of the Whedon version comedy is so amazing; the little light makes the setting interesting. The characters shine pretty well as they perform. This should have taken Shakespeare a lot of creativity to choose the dark setting with limited light. This draws the attention of the audience because anyone would need to know what is happening next. Of course, the Whedon version is two supporting characters in the drama of Claudio and Hero: those of Benedict and Beatrice. This subplot is given life and energy by the characters Eve and Edwards, who are very good individually and together. Smaller characters like Dogberry are well delivered too, and are funny, so they add laughs. It is such an amazing comedy with amazing characters that makes me wish I would be there physically enjoying the show but all the same, I felt really satisfied and enjoyed the watch.

The narrative here is fragmented, and I do feel strange when enjoying the lesser characters and subplots more than the main dramatic thread although I think it was acted this way. As a result, there are parts where the performance feels deeper and heavier than it would like, mostly it keeps things light and amusing, but the drama is part of it as well. These parts feel a bit slower, but the production still does them well mostly under how Claudio is played; his youthful shyness and passion, generally his behavior help make his reactions seem reasonable (1 hr.: 45min: 14 sec) . At times it is a bit wide in the unwritten elements and physical effects it adds to the text, but to be fair it does help keep a general and constant aura of happiness and energy in the show, therefore bringing forth a very lively and enjoyable film; with many thanks to the wonderful from both  Eve and Edwards.

It is very clear that in this film, Whedon was trying to make the setting as natural as possible to trigger the mood of love and connect the audience with the comedy. The choice of the dim light in the comedy was creative, and it enhances the attention of the viewers, also. anyone would feel interested to be a part of the comedy (2 hr.: 22min: 00 sec). How enjoyable I found the comedy I wish it was longer because of how much I enjoyed it. The floor is amazing and shining and this sets the beautification of the film. The arrangement of the seats and table makes the setting the cool place for performance.

Finally, the far end of the stage is gloomy with some soft bluish colors. Shakespeare used this kind of dim light as part of creating the suspense and this would make try to get what is happening next. It was even more interesting to see who will pop up from the dark end of the outdoor stage. It makes the whole comedy such an amazing and entertaining for the selection of this kind of setting with amazing characters.
